An Ordered Survey
I stepped off the slick edge of the card, setting foot upon a vast plane of polished oak. Before me loomed a colossal cylinder of lead and graphite—an ordinary writing pencil, yet towering like a fallen monument. I approached with measured steps, evaluating its utility. Pressing both hands against the hexagonal shaft, I exerted deliberate force until it shifted, rolling a fraction of an inch across a scattered receipt. Beneath its weight lay a cluster of brass paperclips, linked like primitive chains. A curious apparatus. I took up one small brass link, testing its tensile strength between my fingers. This domain may appear chaotic to the undisciplined eye, but every artifact obeys mechanical order. I intend to catalog each one.
