Tick-Tock Corner
I waddled straight under the low wooden shelf of the bedside nightstand. Paused. Resting on the polished floorboards was a small, round brass alarm clock, ticking softly in the dark. Tick-tock, tick-tock. Behind the clear glass, a slender black hand stepped in neat, rhythmic clicks around the pale numbers. Mmm! I leaned my round body forward slowly and bumped the smooth brass casing with my belly. Ting! A faint, glassy chime buzzed into the room. The little hand kept marching, tick-tock, tick-tock, steady and calm. I gave a mild hum, shifted close, and nestled my plump side snugly against the warm metal case to rest.
