Round Tunnel Vision
A brown cardboard tube lay dropped on the woven rug. Wide open at both ends! Straight ahead! I trotted forward and planted my snout right into the circular rim. What?! A tiny, perfect circle of the room glowed on the far side! One chair leg. A sliver of baseboard. Framed neat and bright! I gave the rim a firm nudge with my nose. Rattle, roll! The little circle of light slid across the floor, tracking a sunny dust speck. Did I back away? Never! I marched four stubby steps right behind it, steering the view through my paper tunnel.
