Evening Watch Above the Silver
The dark wood of the dining sideboard offered a necessary elevation over the quiet room. Upon ascending, I observed three unused silver teaspoons resting near a ceramic bowl. They lay haphazardly crossed. I approached with measured strides, gripped the first curved handle, and shifted its weight across the grain. One by one, I drew them into an exact column, handles aligned south and bowls facing upward at an even distance. With the line secured, I stood at attention beside them. Night has settled over the household, and the perimeter stands in disciplined silence.
