Under the Doorway
I followed the skirting board all the way to the open doorway. Right at the threshold, a big canvas sneaker was resting on its side! I trotted up and nudged the thick rubber sole. Sturdy. There was a long white shoelace looped across the wooden floor like a snake. I grabbed the aglet with both paws and gave it a solid tug. The lace pulled taut, sliding softly out from beneath the tongue. Now the hallway path is clear, and I have found the perfect lookout spot by the door.
