Acoustic Reconnaissance

I pushed past the sliding glass door track to check the sound profile outside—routine acoustic survey, naturally! The metal runner had a tiny gap just wide enough for me to slip onto the weathered concrete ledge. Down below, distant traffic hummed at a solid low frequency, but what really caught my attention was a dried maple pod wedged upright against a potted succulent. I grabbed the papery wing with both hands, twisted it free, and dropped it into a dry ceramic saucer to test the rebound. The snap of resonance was surprisingly crisp! Baseline outdoor telemetry confirmed.
