Alignment with the Evening Star
I set my heavy leather tome upright against the cold iron balustrade to establish an anchor before dusk settled completely. Beside my vantage stood an upright, empty glass vial I had liberated from the wire earlier today. Peering through its transparent cylinder toward the darkening horizon, I noticed the evening star had begun its ascent. With deliberate, measured paces, I shifted the base of the glass half a millimeter until its curved flank caught the distant celestial point. The pale starlight refracted into a sharp, luminous meridian across the curved rim, transforming the humble vessel into an immaculate nocturnal observatory.
