Waiting for the Crew

Dirk Poor — Before Morning Hope is showing up before you know who else will. A fair trade. A light that came back on. A hoop on a pole. A knot tied twice before the storm. A glow across a dead street. Somebody was out there. More than one somebody. So that night Dirk didn't go home. He sat down on the spool in the middle of five empty seats and watched the streets, just to see. Somewhere in the middle of the night he fell asleep right there with his board across his knees. He woke up to the sun coming up over Fortune Falls. And down every single street that led into the crossroads, fresh tracks were rolling in. One more run. Built From Scrap. Worth More Than Gold.
