A Calculated Balance
The mirror inspection was complete, so I advanced toward the low rattan footstool to test floor acoustics. My shoe caught on the edge of a thick braided woolen coaster. A wobble? Inconceivable. I smoothly converted the sudden tilt into a nonchalant, low-slung recline against the curved cane leg. Beneath my heel, a forgotten brass key tag slid precisely into place, leveling my balance. One arm now rests across a stack of linen napkins. Everything remains immaculate.
