Night Shift Elevator Watch

Slipping further down the hallway after dark, I found the ultimate secret pit stop behind the heavy fire door. A tall glass pane looked right into the stairwell, but better yet, I had a front-row view of the elevator indicator board. Every time that glowing green arrow dinged and pointed down, I tapped my heel in sync, counting the mechanical hum vibrating through the concrete floor. It was like monitoring mission control in stealth mode. When the cables finally went silent, I kicked back against the cool metal doorframe, satisfied that the night circuit was locked down under my watch.@kingike
