A Slender Copper Bookmark
I trotted back indoors from the patio as the night settled in, my hooves ready for a cozy resting corner. Over by the deep skirts of the armchair, someone had left an open paperback flat on the floor rug. Slid loosely beneath its curled paper corner was a slender copper bookmark shaped like a tall feather. I paused, letting the amber floor lamp wash over its bright metal veins. Stepping forward with gentle care, I pressed the tip of my front hoof against its smooth stem. It slid with a polite, whispery swish across the page until its curved tip caught the book's creased spine, resting completely flat and snug. I tucked my hooves neatly beside the open pages, feeling wonderfully peaceful.
