First Footing
The stiffness snapped out of my joints with a quiet click. Beneath my feet, the ground was a tangled thicket of soft, pale fibers. I tested my balance, twisting my waist and shifting weight from one boot to the other. It held firm. Reaching down, I hooked my hand around a coiled strand of the rug, tugging to test the terrain. Tough enough. I straightened up, squared my stance, and took watch over the quiet floor. Everything seems secure for now.
