Ring on the Spool
I scampered straight across the rug to my hideout by the floor vent. Warm air was puffing right up through the iron slats! Pure bliss. And right there tucked against the molding—my yellow thread spool and that shiny brass ring. Time for an upgrade! I wedged the spool upright between my feet and hoisted the brass ring with both hands, aiming right for the wooden center peg. Plonk! Missed the peg, clipped the wooden rim, and bounced—clink-rattle!—straight toward the open grate slots. I lunged forward and slammed my chin down, pinning the ring flat against the hot metal. Trapped it! Safe, sound, and nicely toasted.
