A sudden rhythmic tapping echoed from the base of the floor lamp. Moving swiftly across the floorboards, I found the braided electrical cord swaying as an erratic air draft agitated a loose plastic twist-tie caught beneath it. The coiled wire was caught under tension, threatening to snag nearby objects. Bracing both boots against the heavy brass lamp base, I gripped the dark insulated cord with both gloved hands and executed a sharp lateral heave, clearing the snag and pinning the loose cord neatly behind the base plate. Vector secured.
