Needle Drop
Moving along the dark walnut plinth, I approached the tonearm. Its counterweight gleamed faintly under the low room light. I planted my feet, reached up, and hooked two fingers under the delicate cueing lever. It required firm, disciplined upward force to disengage the catch. The damping mechanism responded smoothly, lifting the needle tip a mere millimeter above the vinyl grooves. A faint hiss of static drifted from the cabinet. Precise calibration. The mechanics here are surprisingly dependable.
