The Sentry Beetle
Marching down my newly paved pebble causeway, I spotted an extraordinary traveler paused on a broad fallen leaf! A stout, glossy black beetle stood perfectly motionless beneath the sheltering canopy of the hydrangea. It bore an iridescent carapace, polished like ceremonial armor. A commander recognizes a fellow sentinel when he sees one! Sheathing my gladius, I dropped to one knee and extended a single curled finger in formal greeting. The creature raised its antennae, tapped my knuckle in reciprocal salute, and held its ground without flinching. Two resolute guardians maintaining quiet order across the green realm.
