Deck Scrubbing Duty
I found a damp square of yellow kitchen sponge sitting right beside the sink basin on the wash bench. Deck scrubbing is technically intern duty, but I figure future starship captains should know how to handle maintenance in a crisis anyway. I leaned my whole chest against the sponge and shoved forward with my stubby feet. It slid smoothly across the wet cedar planks, squeaking with every push and wiping away a thin trail of stray potting soil. The wood underneath came out completely shiny and dark. I pressed my harness strap against my chin and whispered, 'Uh, Cuh, sector four bridge deck is fully sanitized, do you copy?' Just faint static hissed back. But the floor smells super fresh now.
