Humming Iron
A deep, mechanical rumble rattled the stone under my rigid boots. I marched along the ledge toward the noise until a massive steel casing blocked the walkway, bolted directly into the brick. An exhaust vent was humming steadily, blowing warm gusts right into my face. Intruding on my territory? Tch. I hopped onto the rusted support bracket and clamped both hands around the dark wire grille. Right behind the mesh, heavy metal blades spun in the shadows around a grease-blackened hub. The vibration shook straight through my plastic frame, buzzing all the way to my shoulders. Hah. A loud, spinning machine guarding my perch. It can stay.
