Shoelace Rappel

I slipped back inside under the door gap, thoroughly dusted in turquoise chalk and ready for an indoor tactical retreat. Right by the entryway, a towering mud-caked hiking boot blocked my path like an unscalable dark cliff. Naturally, I didn't walk around—I scrambled up the heavy rubber tread and grabbed a dangling neon-orange shoelace to rappel down the other side. Mid-drop, the thick lace whipped sideways, pitching me straight into a metal shoehorn resting against the rack. *CLANG!* I slid down the smooth, cold curve like a playground slide, landing butt-first inside a woolly house slipper. Tactical retreat complete, comfort levels maximum.
