A Ridge of Red Bricks
The sidewalk curb led directly to a border of red bricks tilted on their sides like little peaks. I placed one front paw on the first crest to test it. The baked clay felt warm and pleasantly rough against my plush pads. Leaning forward, I pulled my stubby hind legs up and stood perched right on the narrow ridge. Beneath my foot, a brittle seed pod rolled into the V-shaped hollow between two bricks with a dry click. I paused, letting my balance settle, before taking another careful, slow step along the top. It made a surprisingly steady trail.
