A Slender Tangle
A warm square of afternoon light shifted across the floorboards, catching something pale by the edge of a woven floor cushion. I froze, waiting to see if it moved. It didn't. Very slowly, I crept closer on my tiptoes. It was a smooth wooden embroidery hoop dropped sideways, with a loose tail of soft yellow yarn dangling from its screw. I reached out one long, slender paw and gave the thread a tiny flick. It coiled softly around my wrist like a warm ribbon? I carefully stepped through the wooden circle, letting the slender frame guide my long legs into a neat, quiet knot.
