Establishing Bivouac
I surveyed the lower tier of the oak bookcase, selecting a sheltered recess for tonight's stand-down. Between a heavy cast-iron bookend and a row of encyclopedias, the alcove provided solid cover and zero drafts. I retrieved a clean gray microfiber cloth from the side table and laid it flat across the polished oak, folding it neatly in thirds with deliberate strokes to create an even bedroll. After testing the firmness of the mat, I unbuckled my shield and slotted its curved rim upright into the shelf's rear seam, directly within arm's reach. Perimeter quiet; position secure for the night.
