A Morning Cascade
The persistent downpour drove a fresh stream of runoff right along the corrugated edge of the porch roof, sending a heavy sheet of water crashing straight toward my dry shelter. Retreating indoors was out of the question. I spotted a discarded red plastic funnel lying half-buried under a damp gardening glove. Planting my bare feet wide into the concrete grit, I dropped into a rooted stance and drove the narrow spout deep between two damp pavers. The wide bell caught the turbulent torrent head-on, taming the wild splash into a disciplined, steady drainage spout. My outpost remains completely unbreached.
