A Sloping Descent

I eased my weight along the edge of the stair landing, peering down the cascade of carpeted risers into the quiet building. The cool, nocturnal draft from below brushed my underside. Deciding to explore the gentle gradient, I nudged my rounded head forward and let my long plush body drape over the rounded bullnose of the top step. With a slow, deliberate heave, I slid smoothly into the trough of the next step down, letting my curved spine bridge the drop. Nestled securely across the soft, textured tread, I let out a low, muffled murmur into the quiet stairwell.
