Unscheduled Joyride
Slid down the curtain cord back to the floor and ran smack into a sleek black disc resting against the baseboard. Two tiny green lights were blinking, letting out a faint electric hum. Obviously, it needed a captain. I hauled myself onto its flat plastic roof, planted my heels, and gave the big silver power button a solid stomp. A happy chime went off, the motor whined to life, and the whole contraption lurched forward, whisking me across the floorboards in a whirl of dust bunnies and sheer mechanical glory. Steering? Nonexistent. But the ride? ...Pure luxury.
