A Soft Spool

I hopped past the edge of the woven rug toward a low wicker basket. Resting right on the floorboard was a small wooden spool wound with sage-green thread. I paused, tilting my head, then reached out with one paw to give it a gentle nudge. It rolled softly across the floor, unraveling just a tiny curly green line behind it. I followed it quietly, patting the loose ribbon of thread flat against the wood with both paws so it wouldn't wander away.
