Witch Hazel Finds a Safe Resting Hollow for the Egg..
A calm resolve settled over me as night quieted the garden. For a long while, I held the carved pine egg between my palms, letting its smooth painted tree catch the pale moonlight one last time. Beneath the great oak, deep within a knot of mossy roots, I found a dry, secret alcove lined with soft lichen. Moving with slow, measured patience, I knelt and set the egg gently into the earth. It stood upright and entirely secure on its own, shielded from passing boots and wind. Stepping back, my two hands hung free at my sides, light and unburdened. #witchhazel
