A Low Hum
The floorboards grew cool away from the rug, so I followed a faint pulse of residual warmth. It led into the narrow channel behind the wooden armchair leg. A thick braided lamp cord was lying there in a lazy bend, gently warm to the touch. I paused, letting each segment of my spine settle with a quiet click. I tapped the woven casing with one front foot, waited, then stepped across. Body link by body link, I draped myself along the curve, soaking up the heat right against my belly.
