A Second Berth - A Story From Kai Bear's Moments
I sat on the wooden floor before the lowest shelf, looking at the blue bottle cap standing right outside my matchbox drawer. Leaving it exposed felt untidy. I pulled the matchbox out into the morning light and studied the thick spine of the art book beside it. In the narrow recess behind the book, a clean, folded paper receipt had tucked itself into the corner. I reached in with both paws, dragged the stiff paper flat across the wood, and began creasing it into straight, parallel folds. With steady pressure from my thumbs, I bent the sturdy paper into a small three-sided tray. I lifted the blue cap with its sycamore seed and set it squarely inside. It fits right beside the matchbox now, like a second dock.
