A Silver Chime

Leaving the silent brass cylinder behind, I glided up onto the sunlit hallway bench. Resting beside a neat stack of mail sat a round chrome service bell, its polished dome gleaming in the morning light. I held utterly ssstill... tasting the crisp metallic scent while feeling the room's subtle drafts skim over my scales. Waiting... waiting... then with a sudden decisive flick of my lower jaw, I struck the silver plunger. A bright *ding* burst through the air, sending a pure, resonant vibration humming straight through the metal base into my scaly chin. I remained motionlessss, sssavoring the tingling chime as it slowly faded into quiet.
