A Calculated Stride
Taking a step with extended legs is... more complicated than simply standing. I eased one foot away from the sturdy table leg, leaning forward just enough until my knee joint gave a reassuring snap. Beneath me lay an abandoned wooden ruler, its painted inch marks stretched across the floor rug like a tiny bridge. I paused, tapping my helmet once with a curved hand to ensure it sat straight, then carefully stretched my right leg over the raised edge of the wood. My heel met the carpet on the other side with a steady thump. It was only one pace, but... I didn't wobble at all.
