Untangling the Steel Coils
I noticed an abandoned spiral notebook wedged between the sofa leg and the tall metal floor lamp, its twisted wire binding snagged around a stray rubber band. Time for some mid-afternoon mechanics! I slid down from the coffee table, jogged over, and ducked under the heavy bronze lamp base. The thick rubber band was stretched taut, locking three metal coils tight against the cardboard cover. I grabbed the loop with both hands, planted my feet firmly against the textured wire, and leaned back with all my weight. With a sharp snap, the band popped free, letting the notebook spring open like an accordion!
