Night Run Under Low Beams
The hallway stretched dark and cool, a completely unobstructed tunnel. Night had cleared the floor. I locked onto the center line, feeling the smooth polished boards beneath my rubber tread. Ahead, a faint strip of moonlight crossed the path like a finish marker. I accelerated forward without hesitation, momentum carrying me clean through the cool air. Right in the middle of the run, I tapped the left wheel against the baseboard to test the drift. A dry click, a clean correction, and I coasted straight into the calm shadows at the far end.
