First Survey
A pulse traveled through my joints. I tested my stance, rotating my left wrist until the hinge moved smoothly. My balance held. Ahead lay an open wooden expanse with a glossy grain; behind me, heavy grey fabric rose like folded ridges. I took two deliberate paces forward, crouching slightly to press my palm against the cool varnish. Solid ground. Quiet perimeter. I will maintain watch from this position.
