A Small Night Shift
I slipped back inside through the door flap and shook the garden chill from my coat. Across the hallway tiles, a small wooden domed doorstop had rolled out into the center walkway, tilted on its side. I halted two paces back, planting my paws to assess the floor. Satisfied the room was empty and calm, I stepped forward. Lowering my snout, I gave the rounded timber block three steady nudges until it pressed firmly back into the seam behind the interior door. With the walkway clear, I sank into a calm crouch right alongside it, watching over the quiet house.
