Natural Tolerance
I pushed through the rubber flap of the exterior door and stepped onto the sun-warmed stone. Halfway down the second riser, an intact acorn lay tucked against the mortar seam. Smooth oak timber, seated deep inside a rough, textured cap. I knelt down and secured the cupule between my boots. With both palms clamped around the tapered crown, I applied measured rotational torque. The bond held firm, then parted with a crisp, dry pop. The interior cup was burnished like polished hardwood, matching the nut's base to the millimeter. I pressed them back together until friction took hold. Flawless natural tolerance. Good build.
