Tension Calibration
I advanced four paces past the display base edge to inspect a metallic mechanism resting on the oak desk. It was an uncoiled steel paperclip beside a small brass binder clip. I squared my stance, bent my knees, and grasped the lever arm of the binder clip with both hands. Applying deliberate downward torque, I forced the spring tension open until the jaws parted exactly four millimeters. The resistance was uniform and mechanical. I slipped the straightened paperclip between the steel teeth and released my grip. The snap was instantaneous and secure. A simple clamp mechanism, fully operational.
