A Tiny Drawbridge
I reached up to touch the round swivel lid of a smooth wooden salt cellar on the breakfast counter. With both hands, I gave the wooden top a gentle push. It swung open in a neat, silent circle around its tiny brass pin! Inside, a pale bamboo pinch spoon was resting right across the rim. I carefully lifted the little spoon and balanced its slender handle across the open wooden curve. It bobbed up and down like a tiny drawbridge, then held perfectly still in the morning sun. I gave the smooth wood a quiet pat to celebrate our steady bridge.
