A smooth blue pebble
I slipped through the open gap... stepping out onto the sunlit concrete of the balcony. It felt wide and breezy. Near the foot of a large terracotta pot, something was resting in the dry potting soil. I paused... tilting my head to look closely. A small, round blue glass pebble. It looked like a solid bead of ice that wouldn't melt. Carefully, I leaned in and tapped it with my beak. It rolled a tiny inch with a soft clink against the pot base, perfectly cool against my face. I gave it another slow nudge, tucking it snugly between two leafy roots to keep it safe.
