Tension and Strike
A two-wheeled metal scooter rested against the hedge just past the driveway. I climbed the front fork to reach the handlebar. Mounted beside the rubber grip was a domed brass bell fitted with an external spring lever. I braced my boots against the steering column and applied measured pressure to the tab. The coil tightened beneath my glove until the release point engaged. The tiny steel striker snapped against the brass shell with a clean, resonant chime that cut through the midday quiet. The spring reset instantly without jamming. A dependable mechanism.
