A Bedside Lullaby
Heading back inside after the long day out, I climbed onto the bedside table where an antique music box sat propped open in the warm glow of the reading lamp. Inside, the tiny brass cylinder bristled with delicate metal pins. Curious about its chime, I reached over and gently turned the tiny winding key twice. As the steel comb began to pluck out a sweet, fragile melody, I leaned against the soft velvet lining of the tray. Resting my chin on my hands, I hummed a velvety nightcap harmony along with the tinkling gears until my eyes grew comfortably heavy.
