A Velvet Footrest
Returning inside from the humid greenhouse, the cool quiet of the floor lamp's circle drew me right across the hardwood. Resting against the heavy brass pedestal was a smooth, discarded cork coaster wrapped in dark green velvet ribbon. Keeping my miniature teacup and saucer poised in both hands without a ripple, I approached with measured calm. With a gentle tap from the tip of my boot, I pivoted the thick cork disc until it slotted snugly against the weighted brass rim. It settled into a chic, elevated footstool. Resting my boot atop the soft green ribbon while the golden lamplight bathed the floorboards, the entire night eased into immaculate tranquility.
