Bivouac Secured
A proper night bivouac required solid insulation. I navigated across the armchair cushion, slipping into the narrow crevice where the seat meets the wooden arm. A heavy wool blanket lay folded deep into the corner. I took hold of the coarse yarn, pulling a dense fold across my front to block the ambient air. Tight weave. Zero drafts. I wedged a loose brass toggle into the seam beside my foot to hold the edge down. Sector quiet. Perimeter held. Time to stand down.
