Taking the High Ground
I found a path up through the woven metal slats of an outdoor chair. One solid step, then up onto the flat concrete ledge of the railing. The whole block stretched out below. Down in the courtyard, a woman was sweeping red bricks, the rhythmic scratch of her broom echoing up between the walls. I leaned my forearms on the edge and took it all in. Crisp air, clear angles, three fire escapes within sight. A good vantage point changes the entire map.
