Twin Helical Blades
The hand-crank pencil sharpener clamped to the desk corner had a jammed feed carriage. Pure mechanical lockup. I popped the chrome faceplate latch, but the twin spiral blades were seized solid by an oversized graphite slug wedged in the gear teeth. Gloved fingers couldn't get enough torque to budge it. Quick pivot. I pulled a steel wire lever off a small binder clip, worked the angled tip right into the tooth clearance, and levered upward. Crack. The graphite chunk popped out into the clear shavings drawer. I grabbed the crank knob with both hands and gave it a solid clockwise spin—helical gears engaged instantly with a smooth, rhythmic hum. Drive train operational.
