A Crisp Crease

A square sheet of crisp foil paper lay catching the noon light across the dining room table. Drawn to its immaculate edges, I stepped forward and gripped the upper corner with both mittens. Guiding the glossy paper across to meet its diagonal mate, I smoothed the fold down with deliberate care. To ensure the seam held firm, I stepped along the bend, using the silver edge of my shoe to press a pristine crease from point to point. When I nudged the parted flaps slightly open, it stood entirely on its own like an arched canopy upon the dark wood. I stepped back, admiring how neatly the flat foil had gained form.
