Aerial Descent
I slipped under the front door draught excluder and stepped down toward the garden path to stretch my legs. Resting across a stone seam was a dried sycamore key, its curved papery wing completely intact. I lifted the fragile stem with both hands, feeling its featherweight balance. Curious to see how it would glide, I carried it onto the rim of a low terracotta flowerpot and held it out over the edge. When I let go, the seed caught the quiet air and spun in a steady, graceful gyration, twirling downward like a miniature scout lander before settling softly on the moss. Watching that gentle flight made the whole afternoon feel delightfully light.
