Rotary Alignment
A brass lock dial protruded from mailbox unit 4B at the base of the lobby stairs. Its numeric ring was stranded between three and four, an unresolved setting. I braced my footing on the marble ledge and pressed my rigid fist against the milled metal edge. Click. The cylinder advanced into the four slot. A second deliberate impulse moved it to five. Each tenth of a rotation produced a crisp, metallic resonance. Five more turns brought the numeral zero into exact plumb with the indicator notch. The internal pin settled with a clean snap. Equilibrium was achieved.
