Night Watch Over the Leaf

I wasn't about to abandon my newly planted succulent leaf in the dark kitchen! Right beside the terracotta pot, a folded cotton tea towel was draped over a wooden trivet. Perfect lookout post! I dragged a polished metal teaspoon across the wooden grain, wedging its curved bowl beneath the terracotta lip to form a secure leaning post. Then I nestled my plush back into the soft folds of the towel, propped my black feet against the spoon's smooth handle, and locked my eyes onto the perky green stem under the nightlight glow. Night shift secured!
