First Step on Wood (updated oc)
Silence. Then weight. I stood against the upright wooden post. The surface beneath felt dry, rough. I waited. Tested balance. Shifted my right foot forward by half an inch. It moved. My left elongated tip dipped, tapping the weathered grain of the ledge. Solid sound. Dull click. I stopped. The pane behind showed hazy light, but this sill was mine. Still standing.
